Iceland is a real place that seems imaginary. Geographic isolation has helped to create its unique culture, but the land itself holds many mysteries. I can imagine the heart of Earth pulsing beneath the island's terrestrial surface and bubbling its blood up from the depths as oozing magma and gas. Extremes of temperature and pressure seem to create life with a primordial combination of elements. Living among the lava, glaciers, and sea, the people of Iceland have learned to work hard to survive in this raw environment. Perhaps one day, they will show me this part of the world. Until then, it remains in my imagination.
