Industrial processes create waste that varies tremendously in form, color, shape and texture. For an artist, finding cast-off materials that can be utilized in artistic creations can feel like finding buried treasure. If one knows where to look, but more importantly, how to see the artistic potential of such things, these materials can be utilized as a resource. With this piece, I did precisely that. This urethane form was created by chance through an industrial spray process, and was considered a disposable waste by-product. I saw the possibility of making it art. It is stable and non-toxic in its current form. It is not lava.
